Everyday Math & Utility Calculators

Not every calculation needs to be a major financial decision. Sometimes you need to know what 18% of a restaurant bill is, how to convert miles to kilometers, what your GPA will be after this semester's grades, or how many days until a project deadline. These calculators handle the routine math quickly and without friction — no setup, no login, no ads in the middle of your calculation.

Percentage and arithmetic calculators

The percentage calculator handles the three most common percentage questions: what is X% of Y, X is what percent of Y, and percentage change from X to Y. The average calculator computes mean for a list of values and also provides median, mode, and range. The standard deviation calculator handles both sample and population standard deviation with the option to see the full calculation steps — useful for students checking their work. The fraction calculator handles addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and simplifies results to lowest terms. The scientific calculator provides a full function set for trigonometry, logarithms, and exponentials.

Tip and discount calculators

The tip calculator splits the bill across any number of people at any tip percentage, and shows what each person owes including their tip share. It also has a quick-reference guide for tipping norms across different service contexts — the standard has shifted in recent years with the rise of counter-service tip prompts. The discount calculator answers the two most common retail math questions: what is the final price after X% off, and what is the effective percentage saved given the original and sale price? The profit margin calculator works the same math from a seller's perspective: given cost and selling price, what is the gross margin percentage?

GPA, grade, and academic calculators

The GPA calculator converts letter grades and credits into a weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. It handles mixed letter grades and plus/minus grades. The grade calculator works in reverse: given your current scores and remaining assignments, it computes what score you need on each remaining assessment to hit your target final grade. These tools are particularly useful at the end of a semester when students are making decisions about which classes to prioritize for studying. Both calculators account for weighted courses (honors, AP) with custom grade point values.

Date, time, age, and unit calculators

The date calculator computes the number of days between two dates, adds or subtracts days from a date, and handles leap years correctly. The time calculator adds and subtracts time in hours, minutes, and seconds — useful for payroll, project tracking, or cooking. The age calculator gives exact age in years, months, and days from a birthdate. The unit converter handles the most common conversions across length, weight, temperature, volume, and area. All of these are designed to give instant results without requiring any form submission — just enter your values and the result updates in real time.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tip calculator include the tip on tax?

Tipping practices vary. The calculator shows tip calculated on the pre-tax subtotal by default, with an option to calculate on the post-tax total. Either is socially acceptable — tipping on pre-tax is technically correct but the difference on a typical restaurant bill is small.

How does the GPA calculator handle plus/minus grades?

A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, and so on following the standard 4.0 scale used by most US institutions. Some schools use a 4.33 scale where A+ = 4.33. Check your institution's specific grade point table if precision matters.

Why does the unit converter not include some units I need?

The unit converter focuses on the most commonly needed conversions for everyday use. Highly specialized scientific or engineering units are outside the scope of the tool. If you need a specific unit added, contact us at hello@bpdynamics.io.
